    • An advice and advocacy service for residents of Hammersmith and Fulham is run each Thursday by Alix Ricahrds, from 10am to 1pm.

    • Vic Wooster - a long-standing volunteer at the East Acton Centre, sadly passed away recently.All members of staff at the East Acton Centre as well as Paul Bartlett, CEO, attended his funeral to pay their final respects. Vic will be badly missed by all as he was a popular, hard-working and loyal volunteer. Vic helped clients change their hearing aid batteries, replaced tubing and perfomed general hearing aid maintenance twice a week for over 15 years.

Advice, Information and Advocacy

The EAC provides assistance to Deaf people, and parents and carers of Deaf people, with general help with personal issues Including welfare rights benefit claims such as Disability Living Allowance.

We also provide inforamiton on a wide range of topics about deafness in general and on issues affecting individuals in society.

Mary Hicks and Sandra Campbell provide you with assistance here.

We support Deaf and hard of hearing residents of the London Boroughs of Ealing, and Hammersmith & Fulham.

For residents of Hammersmith and Fulham, the service is open on Thursday from 10am to 1pm and the following are offered:

information; advice; help with phone calls, signposting, form filling.


DeafBlind Support

Sandra Campbell works with DeafBlind people by providing inforamation and advice as well as social and independent living assistance to DeafBlind people living in Ealing.

Lindsay Wood provids communication support to Sandra.

In addition we provide general services to DeafBlind people at the EAC.

 

Interpreting Service

If you are a resident of the London borough of Ealing, we provide a BSL, lipspeaking and notetaking service for hospital and Social Service appointments, as well as other arrangements you have with different council departments.

Equipment Assessment and Provision

deafPLUS EAC provides an equipment assessment, fitting and maintenance service for Deaf and hard of hearing people living in the Borough of Ealing. Including loop systems, alerting devices and personal listening devices.

Carol Elgy is our Technical Officer, Roger Hamblyn, Technical Fitter, and Ralph Garai is the Administrator of this service.

Margaret Chadwick provides advice from 10am to 12 noon every Thursday morning about hearing aids - tubing, batteries and maintenance.

Ethnic Minority Service

Sandra provides support for Deaf and hard of hearing people from BME backgrounds, including:

  • Advice and adovcacy
  • Culture-sensitive service taking into consideration issues relating to ethnicity, culture and religion
  • Personal development
  • Social network for Asian Deaf women every second Wednesday. See here for a poster.

Information Technology Service

The EAC provides an IT service and the following are provided:

  • IT Cafe during drop-in hours and by appointment
  • IT training for Deaf and hard of hearing people aged 50 and above
